Editorial policy
How we create content
Our editorial standards govern every article we publish — from how we evaluate sources to how we handle corrections and conflicts of interest.
Mission
Modern Weight Science exists to translate complex metabolic, pharmacological, and clinical research into clear, accurate, evidence-based education. We cover GLP-1 medications, appetite regulation, metabolism, and obesity science — topics where misinformation is widespread and the stakes for readers are high.
We do not sell products, promote specific brands, or accept compensation that influences our editorial coverage. Our content serves readers, not commercial interests.
Source standards
We evaluate sources using a hierarchy of evidence. In order of preference:
- Peer-reviewed clinical trials and meta-analyses — published in indexed medical journals (NEJM, JAMA, The Lancet, Obesity, Diabetes Care, and others)
- Systematic reviews and clinical guidelines — from authoritative bodies such as the FDA, NICE, ADA, and the Obesity Society
- Primary regulatory documents — FDA prescribing information, clinical study reports, EPAR documents
- Secondary review articles — cited only when primary sources are unavailable or when synthesizing across a broad literature
We do not base factual claims on press releases, manufacturer materials, patient testimonials, or unreviewed preprints without explicitly flagging those limitations. When evidence is preliminary or contested, we say so.
How content is created
Each article begins with a review of the primary literature on the relevant topic. We identify the key clinical trials, systematic reviews, and guideline documents. We summarize findings accurately, without overstating effect sizes or generalizing beyond what the evidence supports.
We apply the following standards to every article:
- Claims are specific and traceable to cited sources
- Effect sizes are reported as they appear in the literature (mean ± confidence interval where available) rather than round numbers or best-case scenarios
- Limitations of the evidence are acknowledged — including trial populations, follow-up duration, and industry funding
- No claim implies that a medication, supplement, or intervention is safe or appropriate for any individual reader
Independence and conflicts of interest
Modern Weight Science is editorially independent. We do not accept payment, gifts, or any form of compensation from pharmaceutical manufacturers, telehealth providers, supplement companies, or any entity with a commercial interest in the topics we cover.
When Modern Weight Science links to a commercial service — such as a telehealth platform or pharmacy — and there is an affiliate relationship in place, this is disclosed clearly and prominently near the relevant link. We do not create content for the purpose of driving affiliate clicks. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.
Medical accuracy and scope
Our content is general educational information. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We write about how medications work, what clinical trials show, and what questions readers might bring to their prescriber — not whether a specific medication is right for any individual.
We apply conservative framing: we do not overstate the benefits of any intervention, and we include meaningful discussion of risks, side effects, limitations, and contraindications wherever clinically relevant. Readers are always directed to consult a licensed healthcare professional before making any medical decision.
See our full Medical Disclaimer.
Content review and updates
GLP-1 pharmacology and obesity research are evolving rapidly. New clinical trials report, approvals are granted or withdrawn, and prescribing guidance changes. We review content when significant new evidence is published and update articles to reflect the current state of the literature.
Every article displays a "Last updated" date. Readers should treat any specific figures — particularly pricing, insurance coverage, and formulary status — as starting points for their own verification, as these change frequently and vary by region.
Corrections policy
We correct factual errors promptly and transparently. Material corrections are noted at the top of the affected article with a correction notice that describes what was changed and why. We do not silently edit errors.
Minor formatting, phrasing, or link updates that do not affect the factual content of an article may be made without a correction notice.
To submit a correction, email editorial@modernweightscience.com with the article URL, the statement you believe is incorrect, and the evidence supporting your correction. We aim to respond within two business days.
